Background:
Contributing to the implementation of operational communication strategy in the mission according to MSF standards. Social media has changed the way people find, consume and react to information. The MSF mission in Sudan is moving towards introducing digital media capacities to be able to connect with Sudanese social media users, to build an online community and to better communicate about MSF’s projects and principles. We are now seeking Communications Officer that will focus on Social media to help support the planning and implementation of a social media presence for MSF in Sudan. |

Duties and responsibilities:
Local Media Management • Under the supervision of the Field Communications Manager, the CO (SM) establishes and maintains regular relations with key local media contacts (journalists, bloggers, photographers, and cameramen). • He/ she will handle local media requests and contact local media proactively to pitch MSF. • He/she organizes events for local media (Press conference, Press briefing…) Content production • Produce, edit and curate content for publishing on MSF social media accounts in English, Arabic, with support provided for translation where needed. • Collect regular photo, video and written content for use on MSF’s social media platforms (in Sudan and across the MSF network), including interviewing community members and staff. • Suggest and propose innovations for content creation and increasing MSF`s social media audiences in Sudan and across the MENA region, such as: opportunities for Facebook Live coverage, interviews with MSF senior field staff, and others. • Work with the FCM to pre-plan and schedule regular content on MSF social media platforms, covering all MSF operations; providing translate support as and when needed. Community building • Help MSF to map and develop a social media audience, and once live, to reply to comments and engagements, as appropriate, with guidance from supervisors. • Promote MSF social media profiles externally • Encourage staff to use social media guidelines; provide support for trainings on social media best practice • Help build MSF Sudan’s network of social media ambassadors at project level.
Monitoring
• Monitor and analyze online topics and trending subject which are relevant to MSF operations and the security context in Sudan • Monitor for mentions of MSF on social and traditional media in Sudan, and report to supervisors on problematic MSF mentions • Monitor backend analytics and evaluate engagement of followers by geographic location, demographics, etc. • Work on daily media and social media review. Strategy • Contribute to the development of MSF social media strategy by providing contextual advise related to social media use and trends in the country • Undertake daily work in line with the broader communications and operational goals of MSF in Sudan, with support and guidance from supervisors. Reporting • Daily reporting on social media mentions of MSF on Sudanese platforms and topics of relevance to MSF operations and security • Regular reporting on social media activities |
