Description

Saferworld is an independent international organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote co-operative approaches to security. Established in 1989, we work with civil society, international organisations and governments to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development and through supporting the actions of others.

This position is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to working with partners on conflict transformation and building peace, and who has a track record of being able to explore connections and work creatively with others. The person we are looking for will be open to meeting new challenges and identifying solutions that are original and fresh.

Saferworld has worked on Sudan peacebuilding issues over recent years and while we don’t currently have a permanent in-country presence, we are engaging in developing analysis and advocacy on conflict and security issues such as the Sustainable Development Goals and Goal 16 through a range of partners.

The Country Director will be responsible for further developing Saferworld’s programme for Sudan – establishing and deepening strategic partnerships with national and international actors working towards a peaceful Sudan and facilitating creative ways to support positive conflict prevention initiatives. The post holder will provide overall programme management for current and future initiatives.

The successful candidate will have significant proven experience at a senior level managing multi-thematic programmes in development and/or peacebuilding/conflict prevention. Extensive experience in leading, mentoring, and developing teams of staff with different backgrounds is a key element of this role as well as leading on effective and values-based partnership work between local organisations and communities.

We would like to fill this post as soon as possible so applications will be assessed on a rolling basis – applicants are encouraged to submit their completed form promptly
