Background:

Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI) is an international Italian NGO established in 1965. Since its establishment, COOPI has been undertaking activities to help and empower the poor and needy in different countries. COOPI Sudan started its operation in 2004 and has been primarily implementing emergency, relief and early recovery programs in water hygiene and sanitation, food security and livelihood, nutrition and protection sectors.

COOPI is currently implementing several projects in North Darfur State, Kassala State and recently Khartoum State in the sectors of WASH, Food Security and Livelihood and Climate Change adaptation. In Khartoum State, COOPI is currently implementing 2 AICS funded projects in the area of Mayo working in the sectors of WASH, DRR, Protection, Livelihood.

 

Under the framework of the on-going projects in Khartoum State, MAYO Area, COOPI is looking for qualified and competent DRR expert to support the Community based management Committees in the identification of risks and in the elaboration of Risks Management Plans.

 

 Duties and responsibilities:
  • Duty Station: Khartoum, COOPI Coordination Office with frequent travel to the project intervention are (Jebel Awlia Locality, Mayo)

Duties and Responsibilities:

The DRR Coordinator will be responsible for providing support to the Community Disaster Risk Reduction Committees of Mayo and will support them in the implementation of DRR Plans, providing them guides and capacity building trainings. Furthermore the DRR Coordinator will plan design and supervise the implementation of all the Urgent Interventions identified at community level, during the first year of Project Activities, which COOPI is aiming to support. Particularly, The DRR expert will work under the direct supervision of the Project Manager Assistant and the Project Manager, in coordination with the Communities, the Community Mobilizers and coordinating the WASH civil engineer/ expert field staff.

He/she will be responsible to:

  • Continue to support the DRR community driven process and the 3 DRR Committees in Mayo;
  • Train and guide the Community based DRR committees in developing and implementing an Early Warning System ;
  • support the CMRRC in the implementation of some of the urgent interventions formulated in three contingency plans, one for each area of Mayo, through a participatory approach;
  • coordinate and involve the interested stakeholders at both community level and governmental level.
  • support the Management board of the project during the Community DRR implementation, whenever it will be required a technical consultancy.

 

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualification and Experience

  • At least 2 years experience in humanitarian action and/or emergency context;
  • At least 2 years experience in Community based Disaster Risk Reduction Management;
  • Master Degree in Civil Engineer, Management Engineer, Disaster Risk Reduction or related field;
  • Knowledge of Arabic language (mother tongue level) and good knowledge of English;
  • Interpersonal and organisational skills, and ability to work under pressure;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Proven skills in GIS mapping
  • Proficiency in using analytical software/program
  • Knowledge of Mayo local context will be considered as an asset.
