[Describe an overview of job missioPPOSSUMMARY:
The FSL Officer will assist and support Relief International Nutrition Sector WFP project beneficiaries and partners in North Darfur state of Sudan to attain food and nutrition security. The officer will provide technical support and capacity building for local staff and communities. The Food Security/ Livelihoods Officer will be line managed by the FSL Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plan, facilitate, and conduct training related to crop production (Kitchen gardens, greenhouses) community forestry, grass reseeding, and capacity building for beneficiaries and stakeholders.
- Follow up & monitor implementation of FFA activities as per the plans
- Participate in assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation processes of the WFP FFA program for various intervention activities of the program
- In consultation with the nutrition team, and community representatives select, volunteer women working groups willing to work in demonstration and individual vegetable gardens.
- Provide training for women groups on vegetable crop production and utilization that include starting from sowing to harvesting and storing. Supporting Establishing greenhouses among women groups.
- Technical support for the food distributions of FFA activities (Haffir, hand-dug well) in collaboration with WASH officer
- Make regular and extensive field visits to all Nutrition sites to plan, implement, supervise and monitor the vegetable garden, greenhouse, tree nurseries, and grass reseeding activities,
- Submit weekly and monthly project progress and monitoring reports to the FSL Manager.
- Provide training on small business skills
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with communities
- Ensure effective management and documentation of program resources and support the Procurement teams by submitting timely and clear orders for materials distribution
- Contribute to compilation and documentation of lessons learned from the project
- Assist in other relevant duties as identified and assigned by the line manager
- Comply with all relevant Relief International policies and procedures with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, security, equal opportunities, and other relevant policies
Supervision:
- Supervises Nutrition Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
- University Degree in Agriculture/ Agronomist/Nutritionist in or development-related fields
- Experience in working in Food Security/ Livelihood/Nutrition projects preferably with National or International NGOs
- Minimum of two years of working experience in food security/ livelihood/Nutrition projects
- Proven planning, report writing, monitoring, and management skills
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English
- Good IT skills including the use of micro-soft
- Ability and willingness to make frequent field visits to the project areas
- Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing program priorities and emergency priorities that may arise
- Strong self-starter, able to take initiatives
- Commitment to save the children policies
Desirable:
- Experience in designing and facilitating training and mentoring of staff
- Experience in working in Nutrition, food security projects, field assessments, and crop and livestock fairs
