For this reason, the Forests National Corporation (FNC) will implement a Trade Capacity Building Program (TCBP) financed by the European Union through the French Agency for Development (AFD) to support the value chain of the gum Arabic sector in Sudan.

Gum Arabic is a strategic sector for improving exportations of Sudan and the living conditions of populations in the Sudan. For this reason, the Forests National Corporation (FNC) will implement a Trade Capacity Building Program (TCBP) financed by the European Union through the French Agency for Development (AFD) to support the value chain of the gum Arabic sector in Sudan (8 States at the Gum Arabic Belt).

The general objective of the Project is to contribute to poverty reduction and environment protection by strengthening the gum Arabic value chain in Sudan and by developing market opportunities for the sector.

 

Job Summary: 

The project is looking to hire a full-time Gender Manager with Key responsibilities of the Gender Manager include managing and oversight over gender-related activities of the project, and serving as a liaison with relevant sector bodies of project.

More specifically, the Gender Manager will be responsible for the project’s work to promote the mainstreaming of gender issues in the community. S/he will work with the project team to ensure that gender issues are addressed in all aspects of the project’s work. and to encourage greater recognition of women’s, youth and disables empowerment in the project policy making.

 Duties and responsibilities:
  • Be the project’s focal point for promoting women’s empowerment and gender mainstreaming in the project
  • Prepare, gender assessment indicators of opportunities and challenges for gender mainstreaming in the project
  • Working with the Project’s staff, to develop activities as part of the annual work planning process under each of the project’s program areas that address gender issues while ensuring that all work plan activities are gender-sensitive or transformative.
  • Provide trainings on gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment for project staff, communities and related bodies (other GA value chain actors) as requested.
  • Support project key bodies in promoting the mainstreaming of gender issues
  • Prepare inputs to all project reporting on the impact of the project’s work on gender mainstreaming
  • Working with the M&E Manager, develop and monitor gender-based indicators of the project’s performance.
  • Working with the states’ coordinators, identify potential grantees that can support the project in promoting gender mainstreaming
  • Implementation of the environmental and social commitment plan of the project with assistant of the project team
  • Implementation of the communication and visibility plan with assistant of the project team
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by the National Project Coordinator
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
  • Education: Advance University Degree in gender studies, rural development or related field. Experience:
  •  Minimum of five (5) years of relevant technical work experience on gender-related topics
  • Experience in the following is preferred: conducting gender and women’s empowerment research; conducting gender analyses, assessments, and qualitative and quantitative research studies; integrating gender and social inclusion considerations and women’s empowerment activities into program design and implementation; designing and facilitating gender trainings; integrating gender considerations into M&E systems and structures; designing gender integration tools and toolkits; developing risk mitigation strategies to prevent and address unintended, negative consequences
  • Capacity to be original and creative in strategies to integrate gender considerations into non-gender related programming;
  • A creative, energetic but pragmatic approach to problem-solving
  •  Ability to work as part of a team and make quick but rational decisions.
  •  Autonomy and responsibility.
  • Focuses on result for the client
  • Positive and constructive attitude
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills

 

Language Requirements: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.

Conditions:

  • The GAD Manager will be under direct responsibility of the Project National Coordinator based in Khartoum
  • Work at the project management unit in Khartoum with frequent moves to the project sites at the states’ levels;
  • One year contract (renewable according to performance);
  • Immediate availability.
