Chemonics International is hiring for a new USAID program that aims to support civil society organizations and independent media to advance key transition priorities. The implementation of this program requires a highly integrated and dynamic team approach to creative, coordinated, and effective program implementation in order to meet the program’s objectives.

 Background:

The USAID/Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Transition to New Sudan (TNS) program aims to support the consolidation of Sudan’s democratic transformation through activities that 1.   strengthen civic engagement, and 2 expand independent media. The Grants Assistant will report directly to the Grants Manager or their designee and will work closely with the Grants Management Unit (GMU) to achieve TNS objectives.

 Duties and responsibilities:
• Assists with grants management and compliance for a large number and wide range of grants issued to local governmental and non-governmental organizations, working closely with the grants manager and rest of the program development team
• Establishes activity files and DB entries upon yellow light for an activity. This includes establishing new electronic and physical files according to the activity’s file structure
• Assists grants manager with regular Database and SharePoint file management throughout the entire activity cycle
• Assists in the preparation of activity clearance packages by ensuring that all documentation required per the clearance checklist has been saved to the electronic and physical activity files and is included in the clearance package. This includes assisting the grants manager to collect grantee references and to complete the pre-award risk assessment
• During activity implementation, prepares payment requests, ensuring all required documentation is included with the payment package and saved in the activity file
• During activity implementation, collects STTA timesheets and STTA deliverables and facilitates the TNS approval and payment process
• Assists the grants manager with the grant closeout process, ensure all files are complete and accurate before closeout. Follows up with GMU and grantee to complete activity files, as needed.
• Participates in the development and continuous improvement of the program strategic framework and objectives.

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
• At least 1 year of relevant work experience in the management and administration of grants and/or donor-funded projects
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Strong management and administrative skills
• Demonstrated experience in grant management focused on ensuring that procurement, finance, logistics, and programmatic aspects are being implemented on-time and in accordance with the specifications of the approved activity
• Fluent Arabic and strong English language skills required
