Description

The PSS and Protection Field Officer position is based within the framework of the project “Provision of Protection and Psychosocial Support services to the most vulnerable and at-risk displaced Ethiopian population in Gedaref state”.

 

Job purpose:

The PSS and Protection Field Officer/s will ensure quality implementation of SRCS Protection and PSS activities with children, adolescents, youth, parents/caregiver in Um Rakuba and Tunayba camps. He/she will work under the supervision and with a technical and operational support of the Project Coordinator. He/she will provide ongoing supportive supervision, coaching and mentoring to SRCS volunteers working in his/her team.

He/she will ensure that all the project activities are carried out through the established SRCS structures and are be based on the Fundamental principles, values and policies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

 

 Duties and responsibilities:
Key responsibilities  Main tasks
Project implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • In close cooperation with the Project Coordinator, ensure effective implementation of the Protection and PSS activities with children, adolescents, youth, parents/caregivers in the target locations.
  • Establish and guide weekly and monthly workplans for the delivery of PSS and Protection activities. Coordinate and supportively supervise volunteers on their implementation.
  • Ensure implementation of monitoring, quality assurance and evaluation activities in the target location. Ensure those are regularly and well documented, inform the project activities and actively engage beneficiaries.
  • Maintain records by writing and/or contributing to monthly reports to Protection Coordinator (both quantitative and qualitative).
  • Regularly monitor protection situation, MHPSS needs and gaps at the camp level and ensure those inform implementation of the project activities.
  • Ensure regular updates to the inter-agency referral pathways, capacitate and support volunteers on their use.
Capacity development, technical support, Caring for staff and volunteers
  • With technical support of the Project Coordinator, enhance the capacity of SRCS volunteers to deliver quality, safe and dignified protection and PSS activities for children, adolescents, youth, parents/caregivers.
  • Ensure implementation of Caring for Volunteers activities
  • Ensure respect of the the SRCS Code of Conduct for Staff and Volunteers at all times
  • Provide on-the-job supportive supervision, coaching and mentoring to SRCS volunteers
  • Being supported by the Project Coordinator, facilitate volunteers trainings on the themes of Child Protection and Child-friendly spaces, key concepts of SGBV, PFA, youth programming.
  • Implement camp-level lessons learnt workshops, ensure their documentation and informing the project activities.
Representation and liaison
  • With technical support of the Project Coordinator, establish partnerships and enhance coordination with relevant stakeholders in the target location
  • Ensure regular representation of the project at the Protection / Child Protection/ SGBV Working Groups at the camp level
  • Engage in advocacy and humanitarian diplomacy activities promoting the SRCS protection services and PSS activities available as and when advised by the Project Officer and the Branch Director

 

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
Personal qualifications
Education
  • Background in Social Sciences such as a BA in Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, Sociology, Anthropology or similar field experience
Experience and Knowledge

 

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar position in a humanitarian organization or NGO, including experience in the area of MHPSS and/or Protection
  • Experience with supervising, organizing and facilitating recreational and life skills activities with children, adolescents, parents
  • Experience in coordinating and managing activities of community centers/child-friendly spaces
  • Good organizational, communication and advocacy skills
  •        Strong interpersonal and cross cultural skills
  • Experience in supervision, management and capacity building of volunteers
  • Good computer literacy (Windows, spread sheetsword processing)
Languages
  • Fluency in Arabic - spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of English - spoken and written
  • Good knowledge of Tigrinyan - spoken and written
