The United Nations Organizations in Sudan seek to recruit suitably qualified nationals for the position of Radio Operator. The Radio Operator works in close collaboration with the UNDSS Field Security Coordination Officer (FSCO)/ Field Security Assistants (FSA) and other UN personnel (especially Security Wardens) in providing support on telecommunications related issues.

  • Transmit and receive formal radio messages from R/SOC  Base or Mobile station as per standard rules and regulations/ procedure.
  • Handle personal conversation with mobiles and UN agencies sub-offices when permitted to do so by the FSCO.
  • Extensively follow-up every Mobile vehicle movement as per the standing rules and regulations of monitoring schedule of radio contact time base on the area, which the UN vehicles are traveling.
  • Receive all reports calls on Radio and sat phone including regular telephone calls and forward without delay to FSCO.
  • Properly operate the HF and VHF communication radios as per the International Radio Communication Procedure.
  • Monitoring the network disciplines and Radio Procedures on the HF & VHF radios as a net control station and advice users to implement it.
  • Properly logging every event on the designed formats of Daily Radio Call, control sheet & log any special event or report received from vehicles being tracked by the radio room or field offices
  • Maintain regular communications with staff in the field and HQ, utilizing HF / VHF / Sat phone or any other forms of telecommunications equipment and methods at your disposal
  • Prepare and submit Daily Vehicle Movement Summary on a daily basis to FSCO for review.
  • Properly file every Radio Messages & documents and telephone reports as per their types.
  • Work closely with other agencies telecoms services
  • Perform any other task given by the FSCO or  he/her assigned deputy.

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school or comprehensive education.

Experience:

  • At least 4  years work experience as a Radio Operator and/or Communications Officer, ideally with an international organization or local Security.
  • Good knowledge of computer applications (MS Office, internet)
  • Knowledge of satellite-based communication systems would be useful.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the UN system and its telecommunications procedures and standards would be an advantage.

Language requirements:

  • Good command written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of local language of the position is desirable but not a requirement.

Contract Duration: One year
