 Background:

Position Description:

We are looking to offer opportunities to three motivated and driven Research and Programs Interns to support Sayara’s research and program activities while providing a crucial educational opportunity to aspiring youth in the M&E sector.

The purpose of each internship:

  • Enhance the educational experience of graduate students through practical and guided hands-on exposure and involvement in development projects in Sudan.
  • Provide graduate students with an exposure to the working environment of a global development organization and a better understanding of working in conflict-affected and transitioning societies.

Location & Travel: 

This position is office-based, so all those who apply are required to be based in Sudan if they are selected for the role or are willing to relocate to Sudan for the duration of the internship. Note that Sayara will also sponsor the Visa for the selected applicant.

 Duties and responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Research and Programs Associates, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks:    

  • Conduct research in the thematic priority areas that is determined jointly by the supervisor and the intern (e.g. transitional government; migration and reintegration; disinformation).
  • Provide support to the Programs team in research and desk reviews.
  • Support team in translation when needed.
  • Support in research training workshops.
  • Support in preparing enumerators fieldwork schedules when relevant.
  • Assist in coordination of data collection.
  • Contribute to the preparation of program briefs, reports, project documents, and possible field visits.
  • Perform background research (qualitative and quantitative) on project activities.
  • Assist with research activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

A minimum of Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Development, or other relevant social sciences.

Basic understanding and background in qualitative and quantitative research methods.

International experience is an asset.

Must have graduated recently.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (in particular, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Previous experience in writing proposals is an asset.

Reporting obligations:  

The Research and Program Interns will report to the Research and Programs Associates.
