Description
SEARCH FOR COMMON GROUND is the largest dedicated peacebuilding organization.
Since 1982, we have worked to end violent conflict and to build healthy, safe, and just societies all over the world. Currently, we work in 31 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
OUR MISSION is to transform the way the world deals with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions.
WE BELIEVE that conflict is inevitable but violence is not. Conflict is a natural result of human diversity. When we deal with conflict adversarially, it generates polarization and violence. When we collaborate, conflict catalyzes positive change.
OUR VISION is a world where cooperation is the norm—where differences stimulate social progress, rather than precipitate violence.
Context
Search For Common Ground
Search is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments and companies deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and Brussels, Belgium, with 52 field offices in 29 countries, Search designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviors.
The Project
The goal of this project is to increase the meaningful participation of diverse women in peace and security efforts at the local, sub-national and national level in Sudan. This project has three main objectives to:
- Strengthen the capacity and confidence of diverse women in Sudan to build networks to better advocate for their needs on peace and security.
- Contribute to the removal of social and economic barriers to women’s participation in decision-making processes on peace and security.
- Create opportunities for women to influence peace and security in Sudan at the local, sub-national and national levels
2. Objective of the Legal and Policy Review
The objective underlying the legal and policy review is to advocate for structural changes to discriminatory laws and policies impacting women’s’ rights and safety. Illustrative laws and policies under review include: challenging the family law which prevents women from being able to enjoy equal citizenship; advocating for policies that expand women’s access to credit and justice services; and increasing legal protections against GBV. The legal and policy review will provide a basis and function as a key resource for the women networks and forums’ advocacy on legal reforms.
3. Translation of the legal and policy review documents
The findings of the review need to reach a wide array of stakeholders, including peacebuilding practitioners, government agencies and funders of peacebuilding projects in order to benefit and utilize them. This necessarily requires that the outputs be available in both Arabic and English as well as to facilitate their publication on various information exchange sites. For this reason, Search Sudan is seeking a qualified Translator to translate the final legal and policy review documents from Arabic to English.
4. Key Tasks and Deliverables
Search will closely collaborate with the selected translator to conduct the following tasks:
- Perform a professional translation of the legal and policy review documents from Arabic language to English language.
- Submit well-organized translated documents of the policy reviews.
- Respond to the feedback communication with SFCG to ensure the highest quality of the deliverables.
5. Timeline
The consultancy will extend from June 2022 to July 2022. The consultant in collaboration with Search will agree on a reasonable timeline to complete the translation which should not exceed one month.
