Description

Background:
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an impartial, neutral and independent organisation striving to protect and assist the victims of war and internal violence, has been working in Sudan since 1978. The ICRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person for the following position in Khartoum: Transport officer 1
Purpose:
Transport Officer 1 assists the Import Export Officer in organizing the logistical transport of goods so that the ICRC can carry out its assistance activities.

Duties and responsibilities:
· Commissions and follows up on air, sea, and road transport services.
· Organizes, groups together and distributes cargo shipments by destination according to the ICRC’s standards.
· Checks the credentials of contracted companies under the supervision of Import Export officer.
· Ensures that all transport requests from headquarters and the field are responded to quickly and efficiently.
· Draws up and updates files (shipping notes, tax information, air waybills, JDE Impex module, etc.).
· Works with other members of the unit to update shipments files.
· Brief logistics staff leaving for field assignments about shipping rules and regulations, under the supervision of Import Export Officer.

Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
· University Degree or equivalent higher education degree in logistics, freight forwarding or equivalent field.
· More than three years’ experience in a similar field.
· Confirmed experience in transport operations and customs documentation and procedures.
· Knowledge of freight rates.
· Knowledge of key account procedures.
· Excellent command (spoken and written) of English and Arabic.
· Good computer skills and ability to run specialized software.
· Valid heavy/light driving licence
· Skilled in the following competencies: Leadership, Accountability, People management, Team work & Collaboration, Representing the ICRC, Beneficiary & Client focused Valid heavy/light driving licence
