 Background:

The WASH officer is responsible to implement CARE’s WASH activities in South Darfur (Nyala locality) which includes participate in ongoing  WASH assessments including identifying areas that need new water points or rehabilitation, coordinate and supervise WASH  projects in the field, conduct water quality analysis, participate in coordination meetings at locality levels, train and coach community/refugee water user committees, mobilize communities to raise funds and participate in designing  water supply projects and work closely with SWC, WES and HAC at the locality level. S/he will coordinate with community/refugee members, local partners, other humanitarian actors and different government offices to identify and support the WASH needs and avoid duplication. The water technician will organize regular review meetings with stakeholders in the areas to assess the progress of activities and incorporate lessons learnt for further improvement.

 Duties and responsibilities:

Implementing CARE’s WASH activities (30%), Planning, Coordination and Reporting  (15%), Supervision (10%), Assessment (10%), Training/Capacity building (10%), M&E and reporting (10%), Contribute to the Success of CARE Partnership Approach (5%), Uphold CARE´s values and contribute to the CO shared priorities (5%), Any other assignment (5%)

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
  • B.sc in Chemical engineering/Hydraulics Engineering or related Engineering.. Minimum three years’ overall water quality experience in water quality with NGOs.
  1. English: fluency in the language, expected to work independently using the language required, to prepare a variety of written communications (correspondence, reports, working papers, etc.), to participate actively in meetings and in work related discussions.
  2. Ability to use computers and have knowledge of MS Office, Auto Cad, Water CAD or CadStd.
  3. Familiar with engineering designs to recognized standards, relating to new/upgrades water supply structures.
  4. Good knowledge of water and sanitation issues, and hygiene practice
  5. Minimum three years of experience in similar position with NGO or busy Government unit
  6. Teamwork spirit and community mobilization skills
  7. Computer skills: Word, Excel and power point
  8. Good communication skills and command of English, both written and verbal
