Main Purpose of Job:

The Community Health Officer will be responsible to oversee all community health activities in Blue Nile state.  The CHO will work with the health coordinator and health manager in designing and reviewing the community health strategy of IRC Sudan. The role will closely support the Community Health Supervisors (CHS) in selection, training, monitoring and support of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs). The CHOs will ensure coordination of CH activities with other health and nutrition activities in the area.  He / She will be responsible to ensure the CHVs/CHWs have all the necessary essential supplies and materials to enable their work.

 Duties and responsibilities:
  • Aquent oneself on the objectives, outputs, indicators, activities of the community health program in the target location
  • Oversee timely and quality implementation of all community health activities in the target location in close coordination with the health officer
  • Lead selection and deployment of appropriate community-based volunteers as per agreed selection criteria in close collaboration with the SMOM and Community leaders
  • Organize and facilitate basic and refresher training for CHVs/CHWs as per the national and IRC guidelines in close collaboration with the health manager
  • Build strong relationship with SMOH, community leaders and other stakeholders in the target location
  • Develop a monthly plan and discuss with the team the require activities that need to be implemented.
  • Conduct a regular supervision visit to supervise and evaluate the field activities and provide a regular feedback to CHSs and CHVs/CHWs in a constructive way
  • Ensure nutrition activities are adequately integrated to the CH activities
  • Ensure that the community volunteers have adequate stocks and provide the medicines according to previous month consumption
  • Submit timely request and follow up with SC team for all essential medicines, tools and other items required for the CH activities
  • Identify and report immediately to the health officer any problem that may interfere in achieving program objectives.
  • Compile and submit weekly and weekly and monthly CH activities report as per the requirement
  • Ensure timely preparation of the necessary documentation for the incentive of CHWs/CHVs and timely processing of payment requests
  • Participate and support internal and external project evaluation exercises
  • Provide on the on-the-job training, guidance, and support for CHSs and CHVs/CHWs
  • Staff performance review and appraisals done and clear performance goals
  • Perform other tasks as may be assigned by Supervisor.
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
  • At least Diploma level qualification on Public Health, Community Health, Nursing, or other medical fields from recognized institution
  • Minimum of three years professional experience in implementing and supervising community health activities that was focused on Child Health Care Program
  • Experience in implementation of ICCM (Integrated Community Case Management) is an added advantage
  • Proven track record in crafting community mobilization, sensitization and awareness raising activities
  • Training and capacity building skills
  • INGO experience preferred
  • Personal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well
  • Good computer skill especially Microsoft office
  • Good command of English
