The Center is implementing an initiative to launch a nationwide Youth Citizen Observer (YCO) Network to strengthen the role of young women and men, who, through independent grassroots monitoring, local peacebuilding, public reporting, and advocacy, will help expand youth political participation and protect civic space.

The Finance Assistant will provide handle The Carter Center’s cash and bank payments and assist overall accurate accounting and reporting. Working under the supervision of the Associate Manager, the successful candidate will ensure proper procedures are followed and assist in preparing monthly financial reports. They will also participate in the creation of cash flow plans. The full job description is below.

 Duties and responsibilities:
  • Supporting accounting procedures and accountability:
    • Ensure proper booking, accounting procedures and principles are followed
    • Assist Finance Officer (FO) managing all Accounts Receivable/Payable, Prepaid Accounts, and Accruals
    • Assist FO preparing monthly financial reports.
    • Ensure proper usage of balance sheet accounts with regular monthly follow up
    • Ensure cash and bank reconciliations are done before closing the month
    • Manage monthly reviewing, scanning, and filing activities. Ensure all back up documents are printed, filed and softcopies are stored on cloud folders.
  • Review of documents submitted for payments and creation of Journal/Payment Vouchers:
    • Ensure all backup paperwork is present and accurate for reimbursements and advances
    • Support FO reviewing implementing partners’ financial documents and reports when needed.
    • Review all amounts, budget lines, accounts, codes and verify arithmetic   accuracy
    • Verify documents against TCC and donor regulations
    • Prepare Journal/Payment Vouchers and submit for approvals
  • Carry out cash/bank management tasks
    • Ensure that petty cash funds are always sufficient in both currencies
    • Report daily Cash and Bank balances to the team
    • Assist in cash bank withdrawals
    • Participate in cash flow plans
  • Perform any other tasks as requested by the Associate Manager and Finance Officer
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably business, finance, or accounting. Three years of experience in finance or accounting is preferred, especially if it is with an international NGO. Salary is commensurate with experience and within the Carter Center’s salary scale and project budgets.

Candidates should have proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word. They also must have previous experience with any accounting software, preferably QuickBooks.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills are essential, and candidates must be able to work under pressure with limited supervision to meet deadlines. Successful applicants will be able to work in a dynamic and multi-cultural environment, and English skills are strongly preferred.
