 Background:

Integrated Measures to Promote Rural-Urban Value Addition and Employment (Improve)” is co-funded by the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany. GIZ has been commissioned to implement it as part of the “Food Security and Water Supply for Refugees and Host Communities in Gedaref and Kassala” programme by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The programme has three areas of intervention and aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population, refugees, and migrants:

1.         Improving food security and thereby increasing agricultural yields;

2.         Improving the nutrition security through the production of vegetables;

3.         Improving the supply of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
 Duties and responsibilities:

Tasks

The Communication Specialist will provide key functions in external and internal communication:

  • Review, update and continue the existing communication strategy targeting various audiences in collaboration with the project team;
  • Review, adapt and finalize existing communication products;
  • Production of photo- video- and possibly audio material, partly based on already drafted scripts, screenplays, layouts and designs;
  • Familiarize with the existing communication and visibility technology (camera, etc.) for the continuation and creation of communication products (incl. videos);
  • Develop communication products including success stories and factsheets, in collaboration with the project team;
  • Create visibility material (e.g. banners, posters, shirts) based on project internal C&V standards;
  • Liaise with external PR and communication service providers and managing contracts with suppliers and contractors;
  • Assure implementation of corporate design standards by GIZ and implementing partners;
  • Assure and assist in proper usage of GIZ internal digital communication tools;
  • Event planning, management and execution with a view to visibility Monitor communication activities of implementing partners.

 

Other Activities

Any other duties/functions as deemed necessary or as delegated by the Project Manager to meet the level of the services of the organization/project.

 
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Training/ Education: Degree in Communication, Graphic Design, Filmmaking, Photography or Journalism

Technical specific knowledge: Advanced proficiency in graphic design, photo and video editing software, video- and photography,

Previous experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in comparable positions, preferably on the field level (outside of Khartoum)

Languages: Native level Arabic, excellent level of English

IT and specific systems: Photo, video and design software

Personal skills:

  • Strong team work and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and process information
  • Flexibility, high self-initiative and creative thinking
  • Excellent inter-cultural and inter-personal competencies
  • The candidate should have knowledge of the Gedaref and Kassala region in East Sudan and be willing to drive to field locations regularly
