Result of Service

• Assesses requirements for the electro-mechanical installation, repairs and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Based on the assessment, drafts technical or assessment reports; determines work requirements, and issues work orders and work assignments to assistants and technicians.
• Project Management including the development of Scope of Works, Bill of Quantity, design plans and schedule documents.

Initial six months Duties and Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Consultant/ Electro-mechanical Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:

• Assesses requirements for the electro-mechanical installation, repairs and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems. Based on the assessment, drafts technical or assessment reports; determines work requirements, and issues work orders and work assignments to assistants and technicians.
• Project Management including the development of Scope of Works, Bill of Quantity, design plans and schedule documents..
• Supervise and coordinate the installation, servicing, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical installation and distribution systems in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation of codes, generators set including mechanical installations, refrigeration, air-conditioning, and HVAC.
• Diagnoses problems and develops solutions for malfunctioning or defective engineering equipment or systems.
• Directly supervises work carried out by national, international junior staff assigned to the team and contractors in accordance with set schedules. Provides inputs related to their performance
• Ensures adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of, electrical distribution systems and generators
• Identify resources requirements for his area of responsibility and submits these for budget preparation..
• Monitors the daily electrical issues work orders, assigns jobs to responsible personnel, checks and reports closure of job tickets or any problems.
• Follows work procedures and schedules; record work time and materials used for work orders; and assist in basic data entry and processes assigned work orders generated.
• Reads and interprets specifications and technical drawings for construction, installations and upgrade of infrastructure.
• Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications/special skills

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

A minimum of five (07) years of progressively responsible experience in design, development or maintenance of electrical distribution systems, mechanical installation and servicing systems in a private, commercial or military environment.

Chartered member of a professional body is desirable.

Previous experience in a post conflict environment or other field operations is highly desirable.
Technical training in electrical or mechanical engineering technology or in a relevant technical discipline is required. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
