Description

ummary of Key Functions:

1- Ensure strategic directions and support to all Gender focusing issues.
2- Efficient support to tasks related to Advocacy, Partnership Building, Coordination and representation.
3- Efficient Support to Programme Implementation and Management of Monitoring and Evaluation.

  • Provide Technical Assistance and oversee the implementation of all work carried out in partnership with Ministry of Social Welfare and other focal ministries;
  • Provide Technical Guidance and support dialogue and conversations on Gender Equality, in order to strengthen Federal, State Community acceptance and championing of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. This will include working closely with selected NGOs and Civil Society Organizations, Religious Leaders, youth and the media.
  • Provide strategic and technical guidance and oversee all UNDP work with the partners on Gender equality and women’s empowerment.

2- Efficient support to tasks related to Advocacy, Partnership Building, Coordination and representation on Gender focusing on the achievement of the following results;

  • Support the leading role of UNDP in fora and meetings related to Gender equality (e.g. Gender Theme Group (GTG) and the SGBV Working group).
  • Participate in and represent UNDP in activities to highlight key Gender equality and women’s human rights issues and advocate for integration of Gender equality issues into the development agenda.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with donors in Sudan focusing on Gender issues and ensure aligning with government’s Gender policies and society Gender norms,
  • Maintain relationships with UNDP’s partners including government agencies, and NGOs, on matters related to the promotion of national commitments to Gender equality with a view of ensuring strategic partnerships and strengthening collaboration.
  • Coordinate project strategies and activities with other UNDP projects to ensure the effective implementation of the Country Programme Document.
  • Contribute to the development of a Gender Strategy for UNDP Sudan in order to build awareness of Gender Equality issues in Sudan and the contribution of UNDP to the country
  • Collaborate with Programme/project’s Gender focal points and provide guidance on Gender mainstreaming in the respective Programmes.
  • Coordinate strategic advocacy activities to maximize support of the UN system, government and civil society partners on Gender equality in line with international commitments.
  • Support to development of policies and institutions that will address the country problems and needs on Gender equality and women’s empowerment in collaboration with the Government and other strategic partners.
  • Analysis and research of information, preparation of substantive briefs on possible areas of operation, identification of opportunities for initiation of new initiatives and projects and Identify and follow-up on strategic opportunities for resource mobilization for implementation of UNDP’s Sudan Gender Strategy

3- Efficient Support to Programme Implementation and Management of Monitoring and Evaluation, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Support the mainstreaming of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment throughout UNDP’s Programme and the design and implementation of interventions.
  • Provide technical assistance in the preparation and implementation of the UNDP Sudan Gender Strategy.
  • Work closely with other CO units/Programmes in support of Gender equality and women’s empowerment to ensure complementarity and avoid overlap.
  • Prepare regular reports on progress achieved by any Gender focused Programme following reporting requirements set by the CO (Partnerships and Planning unit) in collaboration with the Programme team and donors.
  • Contribute to rigorous monitoring and evaluation of Gender-related Programme interventions, in close collaboration with Strategic Planning, Partnership & Communications (SPPC).
  • Compliance of operations with UNDP Gender parity rules, regulations and policies, implementation of project operational strategies and monitoring achievement of results.
  • Thorough analysis and research on political, economic and social developments trends and issues affecting women’s rights in Sudan to inform a strategic response to opportunities and challenges within the context of UNDP’s Programmes in Sudan.
  • Support UNDP Gender Team in organization of trainings for the program/projects staff on Gender issues.
  • Represent UNDP at the PSEA Network and provide support to its advocacy efforts and other activities.

 

  • Master’s degree in social science, Gender or Women’s Studies or other relevant discipline.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Minimum 2 years with a Master’s degree or 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree of rogressively responsible professional experience in recovery and development, with special focus on addressing the promotion of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in crisis and post-conflict countries.
  • Proven work experience in Project management.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong diplomatic skills in handling counterpart relations
  • Strong IT and Microsoft office skills
  • Previous work experience with the UN will be asset
  • Good knowledge of UNDP Rules and Procedures is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in Sudan context is an asset.
