The Danish refugee Council (DRC) has been operational in Sudan since 2004 focussing primarily on Protection, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) as well as Community-driven Recovery and Safety Programmes (CDRS) with a geographical focus on Khartoum and Darfur. In order to support our growing programme, DRC is looking for a Livelihoods officer for a new livelihoods programme in Khartoum.  The Livelihoods officer is responsible for supporting the Livelihoods team with technical input and support for the implementation of livelihoods programming in Khartoum. To this end the livelihoods officer will provide insight into the markets needs including employability skills, markets assessment and training needs to support the implementation of the livelihoods programming. Additionally the officer will support the livelihoods team leader in all assessments and trainings conducted.

Responsibilities:

Project Implementation

  • Coordinate directly with the Livelihoods Team Leader and field team for the effective implementation of all livelihood related activities;
  • Contribute to the design and lead the implementation of a market analysis to identify priority sectors for programme design;
  • Co-design employability trainings in coordination with the Livelihoods Team Leader;
  • Contribute to the development of tools and processes used for livelihood activities;
  • Facilitate the distribution of conditional livelihood support grants to eligible applicants;
  • Co-coordinate the launch of assessments, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions on livelihoods;
  • Conduct regular / ongoing market research to contribute to the design and implementation of market-based livelihoods programming
  • Support the identification of suitable service providers (private companies and institutes, vocational training centres, schools, etc.) for livelihoods activities
  • Advise on relevance of trainings based on an analysis of marketable skills
  • Review training curricula to ensure they enable the development of marketable skills

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Support MEAL team to manage all livelihood data collection exercises including the conducting of assessments and surveys (e.g. baseline surveys, yield assessment, do-no-harm surveys etc.) in close coordination with the Country MEAL unit to monitor and evaluate livelihoods project activities;
  • Work closely with MEAL unit to identify, document and disseminate relevant project success, challenges and follow up on implementation of project’s action points
  • Support the undertaking of detailed situational analysis in collaboration with relevant stakeholder and propose appropriate project implementation approaches
  • Participate in project evaluations and assist in the analysis of results

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • University degree or higher education in agriculture, economics, business management, sociology, psychology, or other relevant field
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional livelihood experience, preferably with a humanitarian aid organization
  • Experience in engaging with training providers and employers
  • Understanding of Livelihood programming issues in Sudan
  • Good computer skills (especially Ms. Office)
  • Understanding of rights and protection issues of migrants, refugees, IDPs, women and youth is desirable.
