Description

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MCT) is a German non-profit organisation that implements media development projects in crisis regions. Activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation. MiCT’s services comprise the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, as well as media research and monitoring in conflict regions.

In collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Khartoum, MiCT is implementing the project “Towards a Democratic Sudan” with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office. In the framework of the project, we will work with Sudanese journalists and political parties in the field of political communication and political journalism.

We are looking for a local project coordinator. The project coordinator will be based at the FES offices in Khartoum. Under the supervision of the MiCT Project Manager and the FES Country Director Sudan s/he will be responsible for all logistical an operational aspects of project implementation. Starting date is as soon as possible, the project runs until end of 2021.

Tasks:

1) Content consultation and coordination

  • In consultation with FES and MiCT, identify and liaise with project participants: political party representatives, journalists, media houses
  • Liaise with project trainers and other resource persons around curriculum / content and participants for capacity building activities in line with the project proposal and outcomes
  • Coordinate capacity building content and participants with FES, MiCT, and local stakeholders

2) Liaison & networking:

  • Be the constant link between local project stakeholders, FES, and MiCT
  • Liaise with local stakeholders
  • Liaise with MiCT / FES partners, civil society, international organizations, authorities, and other stakeholders to present and promote the project
  • Liaise with Sudanese journalists and political parties on all aspects related to project implementation;
  • Network with local media to facilitate publication of produced material
  • Liaise with international stakeholders
  • Network with international organisations / donors to promote the project and identify project / funding opportunities

3) Operation:

  • Logistics: manage and coordinate all logistical aspects of project events including travel arrangements, accommodation, venue, equipment etc.
  • Finance admin: (i) manage the project finances, facilitate payment of local expenses; (ii) monitor project budget under the supervision of MiCT / FES; (iii) prepare contracts and other financial documents.
  • Reporting: (i) Regular project reporting meetings at FES offices as agreed with the country director; (ii) Regular project call with MiCT Berlin as agreed with the project manager; (iii) Monthly project report outlining project progress

4) Monitoring & Documentation:

  • Monitoring: (i) Continuous comparison of activities / implementation against project plan / proposal; (ii) Continuous monitoring of the project timeline
  • Documentation: (i) Documentation of capacity building activities (programs, participants lists, reports etc.); (ii) Documentation of all produced content;

5) Other

  • Provide assistance with translation where necessary (Arabic / English)
  • Provide assistance to FES / MiCT in all areas of the project implementation where needed

Requirements:

  • Sudanese national or valid work permit for Sudan
  • Arabic native speaker, fluency in English
  • University degree (Masters of equiv.) in the area of political studies, social science, humanities, law, media studies or related field
  • Sound understanding and interest in Sudanese history, politics, civil society, and media
  • Previous experience with donor funded projects and international organisations is an advantage
