Program Officer, Democracy, Governance, and Political Transition - Sudan

The Program Officer will support IFES efforts in Sudan to provide an ongoing assessment of the political transition and stakeholder readiness to hold transitional elections, and to provide technical assistance to election stakeholders, as requested. The Program Officer will be responsible for facilitating engagement with and outreach to Sudanese stakeholders, coordinating IFES activities and providing ongoing updates and analysis of political and electoral developments This position is contingent on expected funding.

 

Job Responsibilities:
The Program Officer will serve as a key programmatic representative in Sudan for this program. The position is for approximately six months, from around March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020. The Program Officer will work under the supervision of the MENA Senior Program Manager, with technical support from IFES’ Sr. Global Electoral Advisors. The Program Officer’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders;
• Assisting IFES HQ personnel and advisors in developing relationships with local stakeholders;
• Coordinating engagement with and outreach to local stakeholders;
• Providing administrative and logistical support including organizing meetings and events, transportation, and interpretation services;
• Facilitating meetings with local stakeholders during IFES HQ personnel’s and advisors’ visits to Sudan, providing basic interpretation and translation at meetings, if needed, and summarizing meetings in written reports to IFES HQ;
• Attending project events and participating in activities, as needed, including providing written reports to the IFES HQ team on all events; and
• Weekly reporting to IFES, including updates on political and electoral developments and analysis of any changes on the political horizon that may positively or negatively impact IFES activities.

 

• Bachelor’s degree in related field. Minimum 4 years’ experience working with international organizations or Sudanese government institutions and stakeholders;
• Demonstrated knowledge of the political transition in Sudan and acquaintance with key stakeholders;
• Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills, including strong report writing and verbal communication skills;
• Facilitation skills are a plus;
• Must work independently and be able to take initiative;
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English required.
