Our Client is a group of companies based in South Sudan looking to hire for positions in their subsidiary companies. The role will be based in South Sudan
JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Editor’s main responsibility is to determine the content of The City Review Newspaper. He or she is responsible for giving reporters their assignments to cover events, collect and write newsworthy stories that inform, educate, inspire and entertain. The editor is also responsible for determining the layout of the paper and the overall feel and look of the paper. The position reports to CEO RAK Media Group
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide strategic leadership to the City Review Team
- Develop the strategic plan, annual plan and budgets for the division
- Ensure smooth running of the division and timely production and distribution of the newspaper
- Develop high performance culture in which there is a sense of urgency in operations
- Develop the Newspaper’s Editorial Policy and other Policies aligned to South Sudan law and that adhere to international standards on reporting and publication
- Read content and correct for errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
- Rewrite copy to make it easier for readers to understand
- Verify facts using standard reference sources
- Evaluate submissions from writers to decide what to publish
- Work with writers to help their ideas and stories succeed
- Plan the content of digital media and publications according to the publication’s style and editorial policy
- Develop story and content ideas while being mindful of the audience
- Allocate space for the text, photos, and illustrations that make up a story
- Approve final versions submitted by staff
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent
- A master's degree in journalism or MBA will give added advantage
- At least five years’ experience as editor in a reputable newspaper with administrative responsibility and exposure
