Salary:  $1,300 - $1,500/mo (salary is commensurate with experience)

Travel:  25%

 

The Near East Foundation (NEF) is seeking candidates for a Senior Training and Organisational Capacity Building Officer, to be based in its Khartoum office. For over 100 years, NEF has worked to build a more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East and Africa through economic development and governance initiatives. NEF’s work is organized around three core program areas: Inclusive Economic Development, Climate-resilient Development, and Stabilization and Peacebuilding.

Position Description:

The Senior Training and Organisational Capacity Building Officer for the Near East Foundation will manage all aspects of organisational capacity building activities for project partners, women’s and farmer’s associations and other organisational stakeholders in relation to project delivery, organisational excellence and effectiveness, representation and outreach, accountability and transparency, organisational and financial sustainability, and technical services associated with project activities.

The Officer will support a four-year UKAID-funded project that will form/strengthen 18 women-led associations and support women entrepreneurs involved in non-timber forest products (NTFP) and other cash crops (hibiscus) in North and South Kordofan states to increase organisation, business and production skills, market access, economic standing, leadership, natural resource base, and favourable institutional environment. S/he will also support two USAID/OFDA-funded projects, Humanitarian Support for IDPs and Vulnerable Populations in WASH, Agriculture, and Food Security in Central Darfur State and in South Kordofan State, which will provide lifesaving activities to improve wellbeing among conflict-affected people by improving their agricultural production and food security.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out training and capacity building needs assessments for the project’s partner organisations
  • Prepare training of trainer (TOT) curricula in both English and Arabic for partner training in result-based project management and delivery, organisational excellence and effectiveness, accountability and transparency, and organisational and financial sustainability
  • Conduct partner trainings on result-based project management and delivery, organisational excellence and effectiveness, accountability and transparency, and organisational and financial sustainability
  • Together with the Project Director and the Senior Marketing/Enterprise Development Officer prepare TOT materials on value chain development, commercialisation and market access in both English and Arabic, and conduct trainings for partners
  • Together with the project’s Senior Leadership & Gender Technical Officer prepare TOT materials for women leadership, women empowerment, and gender equality activities, and conduct training for the partners
  • Together with the project’s Senior NRM and NTFP Officer prepare TOT materials for the project’s b natural resource development activities (including on revolving funds and sub-grant making for NRM project), and conduct training for the partners
  • Prepare capacity building, training and coaching budgets for the approval of the Project Director
  • Monitor the trainings carried out by partners and provide coaching, advice and assistance as needed
  • Prepare regular monthly training reports regarding the training and capacity building activities for submission to the Project Director
  • In coordination with Project Director and field staff team, prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. success stories, monthly newsletters, reports, memos, letters, thank-you notes, refunds, name tags, sign-in sheets, class lists, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information
  • Perform any other support or duties as requested by the Project Director or the Programme Director
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:

Qualifications

 

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written communication in Arabic, is required. Good English oral and written communication is a plus
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience in organisational capacity building and economic and social development work
  • Proven track record in developing curricula and training-of-trainer programmes, and in delivering targeted organisational and technical TOT trainings and coaching
  • Experience in effective collaborative training designs and delivery
  • Experience working with cooperatives
  • Experience working in agriculture development, market systems or value chains
  • Experience working in women economic empowerment or gender equality programming
  • Previous experience working for international non-governmental organisations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Effective organisational and time management skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in organisational development, social development, or related field
  • Experience working in non-timber forest products and hibiscus value chains
  • Previous experience working on DFID, UNDP, EU, USAID or other internationally funded projects
  • Advanced writing skills in English
  • Previous experience working on projects in North and South Kordofan States
