The GIZ Office in Khartoum is looking for a qualified person to fill the following position:

 

 Duty Station: El Geneina, the capital ofWest Darfur,with regular duty trips to El Fasher, Nyala and Khartoum.

 Background:

On behalf of the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ implements a project to promote employment in the three capitals of North, West and South Darfur. The project aims at improving the livelihoods of the local population, internally displaced persons and refugees by enhancing both the demand and supply sides of the labour market. On the demand side,the project works with private sector organisations and producer associations to improve business and entrepreneurship development services that will enable young people to start their own business and artisan workshops and small businesses to grow and create jobs. On the supply side, the project strengthens the capacities of technical and vocational training providers to deliver market-oriented skills training. To complement these efforts, assistance is provided to stakeholders, including the Labour Offices in the three respective towns, who can link young job seekers to opportunities for apprenticeship, employment or self-employment. Particular attention is paid to marginalised groups such as internally displaced persons, refugees and women.

 Duties and responsibilities:
  1. Responsibilities

The position holderis responsible for:

  • Liaising with all relevant implementing partners in El Geneinarelevant to the field of entrepreneurship promotion and small business development (e.g. youth hubs, business associations, larger companies, relevant government departments and other implementing agencies relevant in this field);
  • Designing, implementingand monitoring project activities;
  • Providing regular updates to the component leader ‘private sector development’;
  • Ensuring the delivery of tailor-made, high quality and market-oriented advice and trainings of trainers (ToT) in the field of management and organizational development, as well as business development (e.g. financial management and accounting, marketing, microfinance services, etc.) and entrepreneurship promotion (innovation, business plan design, marketing).
  1. Tasks

In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:

  • Supporting the strategic planning of the project management, particularly in the development and updating of the plan of operations, the capacity development strategy, a gender mainstreaming strategy and the communication strategy of the project;
  • Supporting the implementation of these strategies;
  • Designing, planning, and implementing project activities such as
    • Awareness creation campaigns;
    • Trainings in business development services (BDS), for example financial management and other business skills;
    • Engagement workshops with the micro finance and small industries sectors;
    • Start-up weekends, hackathons,incubation programmes for young aspiring entrepreneurs;
    • Organizational and management training for youth hubs, business associations;
  • Identifying contractors, drafting terms of reference and managing the implementation of contracts with consultants and consulting firms;
  • Monitoring, documenting and evaluating project activities (incl. drafting report, meeting minutes);
  • Producing communication material in English and Arabic;
  • Translating documents and verbal inputs in meetings from Arabic to English and vice versa;
  • Performing other duties and tasks at the request of the PSD component leader or the project management.
 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
  • University degree (at least Bachelor or equivalent) in economics, business studies or other relevant field, OR secondary school diploma;
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience in start-up promotion and youth entrepreneurship;
  • Experience in project design and implementation;
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation;
  • Ability to work efficiently with tight deadlines and competing priorities;
  • Excellentwriting and verbal communication skills inEnglish and Arabic;
  • Excellent intercultural and interpersonal competencies and experience with working in international teams; ability to communicate with different stakeholders from both private and public sectors;
  • Experience with and passionate about facilitating trainings and workshops;
  • Experience in mainstreaming gender;
  • Proven communication and negotiation skills to handle sensitive situations;
  • A problem-solving and hands-on attitude;
  • Ability to draw on an existing network ofsocial entrepreneurs in Sudan is an advantage.
