Description

The Veterinarian Field Officer will ensure an independent and professional evaluation of livestock related issues (past and present) in Sudan, particularly in West and South Kordofan and Blue Nile States. S/he implements, with the help of the Economic and Security team, the livestock program in the field, in production and structural livestock interventions including inter alia vaccination campaigns, training of vet technicians, and any other livestock-based intervention such as potential Livelihood Support Projects.

 

 

 Duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide relevant support in assessing, identifying, designing and implementing vaccination campaigns in different geographical area.
  • Advice and support the field team with the implementation of livestock based small scale livelihood support Initiatives (honey production, cheese-production, and fodder production.)
  • Assess and analyse the real needs of the livestock keepers and government Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries (MARF) both federal and state levels.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely internal technical reporting to the Livestock Specialist and EcoSec coordinator.
  • Attend relevant external coordination meetings.
  • Run the ongoing livestock program together with specialised field officers.
  • Establish and maintain regular coordination with the relevant humanitarian and other actors.
  • Generate statistical and narrative reports as required.
  • Translate from English to Arabic and vice-versa.
  • Prepare and participate in field trips and contributes to the Field Trip reports;

 

 Minimum Qualification, Skills and Experience Required:
  • Specialized veterinary degree (2-3 years) or university degree in veterinary medicine.
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in a similar field.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the assigned area.
  • Previous experience working for NGO or international organization is an asset.
  • Computer proficiency, specially in Excel.
