An opening has arisen for a science / environmental or engineering graduate to join our multidiscipline team.

You will mainly be based at one of our field locations in East Africa. You will be the designated 'Site Manager’ responsible for the operation and monitoring of a reed bed system for the treatment of waste water. This involves managing the reed bed on a daily basis, adjusting the water flow regime as appropriate to ensure the water is treated to the requirements of the site. You will collect water samples and analyse these in our site laboratory to verify the performance of the system.

You will be performing data analysis and producing regular reports on the performance of the system. You will liaise closely with colleagues in country and in the UK and you will have to be able to manage your own time and meet deadlines.

You will need to maintain a good working relationship with the client, which may include taking visitors on tours of the reed bed, giving presentations and answering questions. You must represent Natural Engineering Ltd in a professional manner at all times.

There is opportunity, for the right candidate, to quickly progress into a Leadership / Managerial role.

You will be responsible for overseeing routine site maintenance activities including co-ordinating a team of local staff. You will also be responsible for following company quality procedures and maintaining a safe working environment both on-site and in the laboratory.

Full training on all aspects of the role will be provided, however once trained you may often be working without direct supervision in a remote location. You will need to have a flexible attitude to work and travel and be sensitive to different cultures and customs.

You will be working on a shift basis, the length and frequency of which has some flexibility depending on the candidate. Typically it will be between 6 to 8 weeks on-shift followed by 3 to 4 weeks off-shift. Your travel to and from site will be provided as will your food and accommodation for the duration of your shift. As this role is based in East Africa, we welcome applicants both from the UK and outside of the UK.

Person specification

  • Ability to work on own initiative and solve problems
  • Adaptability and ability to work in remote locations under difficult conditions
  • Flexible approach and willingness to work overseas for extended periods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications:

Degree in related subject e.g. engineering, chemistry, geology, environmental science, ecology, agriculture / forestry or other scientific subject

Skills/experience:

Full training will be provided, however skills in water sampling, laboratory analysis, report writing, data interpretation and/or giving presentations would be advantageous. The flexibility of this opportunity means that the available role can be tailored to suit to the level of experience of the successful candidate.
